In this leadership in safety training course, you will learn about the role of a supervisor, how to identify and minimize potential hazards, workplace inspections, and accident/incident investigation. .

Course Overview

This Leadership in Safety online course was designed to help supervisors understand their role their health and safety management system. This safety leadership for supervisors course consists of four modules:

  • Supervisor, Role
  • Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control
  • Formal Workplace Inspections
  • Accident/Incident Investigation

Leadership in Safety Online CEU points: 0.6

The Alberta ERSD Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Program requires that operators have post secondary education or equivalent, to meet the requirements for a levels III and IV certification. The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) system can be utilized by operators to gain the equivalent of the post secondary education.

Course Topics

MODULE 1 - SUPERVISOR'S ROLE

Includes safety responsibilities, safety related tasks, legislated responsibilities, and corporate culture.

MODULE 2 - HAZARD IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT, AND CONTROL

Includes how to recognize safety hazards, conduct assessments of work activities, and control identified hazards.

MODULE 3 - FORMAL WORKPLACE INSPECTIONS

Includes how to conduct effective worksite inspections; the difference between hazard assessment and inspections; and how to interpret observations, document findings, and develop appropriate recommendations.

MODULE 4 - ACCIDENT/INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Includes when and why investigations are necessary as well as appropriate steps to follow when conducting an investigation.
